How do you recover when life kick boxes your soul?

Becca Gable is fighting to stay on her feet after a series of crushing losses. She’s always been the good girl until the events of the past year push her to make a mistake she can’t take back. Now, her corporate finance job and her fiancée are gone thanks to her newly-acquired criminal record.

Shane Marlow survived an IED blast during his service in Iraq—but half his team did not. Physically healed, he returns to his home county as a K9 officer. The scars of loss run deep and though local folks admire him, no one truly gets him—until Becca literally lands in front of him.

Their bond of shared tragedy evolves into a connection both fiery and healing. But a stalker decides that Becca’s crime should stay front and center. As the unsettling episodes reveal that no part of her life is secret, Shane is all that stands between her and the enemy.

Shane tilted her chin up. Big, sad eyes stared back at him. Hell, he’d had that bleak feeling. The point where his heart hurt for his team, and he felt like he was facing a sheer vertical climb with no help. He dealt with it by working, running with Denver, shooting, hanging out on Redemption Hill. And he pushed the negative thoughts to the back of his mind.
But not until Becca had he realized that meeting someone who’d walked his path could make a difference. “I see that look,” he murmured.
“What look?”
“The one that says you’re at the bottom of a twenty-foot pit with no ladder.”
“Maybe I am,” she whispered. “How did you get out?”
“Don’t know if I have,” he said. “But meeting you bumped me up higher than I was before.”
Her brows knit. “How can I help you when I can’t even help myself?”
“Just being you is all you need to do.” He laced his fingers with hers. “I’m not good with words. But I’ve never met anyone who’s been through anything close to what I have—losing people too soon, and not just one—except for the rest of my team. And, uh, it’s not like we hang out and talk about our feelings or anything.”
She gave a half laugh. “Yeah, I guess not.” Light fingertips grazed his knuckles. “I still don’t know how I’m helping, but as long as you think I am, I wanna keep on with it.”
“I like that plan.”
Finally, a happy glint appeared in her eyes. “I like you.”
He grinned. “Seein’ as you’re buck naked in my bed, you better.”
“You’re bad.” She smacked his chest and kept her hand there, pushing him back. “Lie down.”
He guessed she wanted to cuddle and that was fine with him. Stretching out on his side of the bed, he held out his arms. “Come here.”
But instead, she leaned across his chest and pressed a warm kiss to his pec. Not a quick press of her lips to his skin. But one that lingered, yanking his mind to a place he hadn’t expected to go tonight. Not that he minded. “Becca?”
She raised her magnetic eyes, but not her warm, naughty mouth. Her kiss, slow and languid, ignited every inch that she touched. “Mmm?”
A hundred questions popped rapid fire into his head. Was she okay? Did she need to talk or to just be held or something? He’d never been good at comfort. But each thought was derailed by the fire in his veins. He trusted she’d tell him what she wanted.
And right now, she didn’t need to say a word.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is by far the best box set that I have purchased. All of the AR just makes the books come alive. I was pleased with all, but my hands down favorites were : Invisible, How to Talk to Ghosts, and Unlikely Magic. If I had to read only one for the rest of my life, however, it would be Unreality by Ingrid Seymour.

Although I had read quite a few titles in this collection already, many are worth a reread, like Midnight Society. Do yourself a favor and grab this before it’s gone! Would give 10 stars if I could!

Emmeline Weiss is facing the most important day of her life. The stakes are high: her high-powered, high-society life in Chicago could come crumbling down around her. And what if trust has more than ONE definition?

As her life dismantles into dark questions and darker answers, the last thing Emmeline expects is for passion and chemistry, physical need and wild sex, to take over. For the first time, with this sexy stranger, Emmeline feels seen.

But maybe it’s because someone is watching…

I step inside and gasp. The space is filled with candles. Their lights flicker, casting shadows on the walls. Some tumblers are bigger, filled with shells, others are just small enough to hold the pillars. My heart jumps at the thought of Alex. Who else would have done this? How? He can’t be here. He’s in Miami. Chicago is not his kind of town. Or is it?

I take a few tentative steps inside and discover the flow of candles is endless, continuing from the main room to the bedroom. The air smells of candle wax and salty ocean breeze. I walk in slowly, making my way through the space. The bedroom comes partially into view; it’s completely filled with candles and glowing in their light.

I make my way in and the whole room is on display. A huge bed is surrounded by flickering lights, a chair tucked into the corner by the floor-to-ceiling window with a view of Michigan Avenue. Alex is sitting in the chair, legs spread wide, elbows on the armrests, hands forming a dome, with index fingers touching his lips. He looks at me quizzically, capturing my reaction.

I exhale and visibly relax, his mere presence lowering my stress level by several degrees.

“Hi!” I say in breathless voice, suddenly feeling overcome by the emotions of the day, energy leaving me and the warmth from the wine I had over dinner coming back to claim me. I’m ready to give up control for the night, let him be in charge. I’m way too tired.

My eyes shine with alcohol glaze, or maybe the unshed tears I kept at bay all day long. I step towards him and extend my arms. He’s on his feet and wrapping me in a hug instantaneously. We inhale each other and stand wordlessly in the middle of countless glimmering candles.

Alex finds my lips and kisses me gently, fingers skimming over my cheeks, tucking a loose, curly strand of hair away. Pulling back for just a second to look at my face, he places a gentle kiss on my forehead and tucks me under his chin. I’m so small against him, both physically and emotionally. He is the ever-in-control one. Finally, I feel safe today.

We spend minutes engulfed in each other’s embrace. Candles flicker near and far, on every surface of the suite, creating dancing shadows on the walls.

Finally, I look up at him, feeling calmed and grounded.

Title: Defenseless (Somerton Security, Book 1)
Author: Elizabeth Dyer
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: December 1, 2017
Cover Designer: Montlake Publishing
Hosted by: Buoni Amici Press, LLC.

When ex-marine Georgia Bennett left the military for high-end private security, it was supposed to soften her snarky attitude. Instead, her short fuse just earned her a punishment of an assignment: protect smart-ass tech genius and Department of Defense contractor Parker Livingston. It should have been easy—only no one warned Georgia that Parker was one seriously drop-dead-gorgeous geek.

The last thing Parker needs is a bodyguard, especially not one with killer curves and a sassy mouth who tempts him to do something incredibly stupid. He’s too busy investigating whoever is turning his technology against him and threatening his team of covert operatives. But when an assassin sends Georgia and Parker running for their lives, it might just be the explosive sexual chemistry and the trust that’s building between them that saves their necks. Because the only thing more dangerous than the combination of Parker’s intellect and Georgia’s aim is their steadfast desire to protect each other, no matter the cost.

Georgia squared her shoulders, tried on her practiced smile, lifted her fist, and knocked. Then knocked some more. Then pounded on the industrial steel until her fist hurt. What the hell was she supposed to do now? Ethan had clearly advised against just letting herself in, but how long was she expected to stand outside and wait?

Screw it. She fished her keys out of her bag and unlocked the door. If the guy wasn’t housebroken, well, she carried a Taser and could fix that quickly enough. It’d get her fired—she could try to spin it in her own mind as the most electric resignation ever—but the satisfaction of watching the inconsiderate jerk squirm would be worth it. Probably. Maybe. Okay, so she’d keep the Taser in her bag and stick with the fantasy.

Gripping the welded handle with both hands, Georgia slid open the steel door. She’d expected it to squeal and protest, given its age and condition, but it slid open easily on silent tracks. Which made the appearance of the man standing on the other side, staring blankly at her as if he had no clue how she’d appeared, a little unnerving.

Smoothing down her irritation, Georgia reminded herself she liked her job. “Mr. Livingston?” He didn’t say anything. Didn’t blink. Didn’t move. “I’m Georgia Bennett. With Somerton Security?” Nothing. Just a vacant stare. Worry crept in, crowding out her irritation. Was the guy hurt? Drugged? “Mr. Livingston, are you all right?”

Georgia inspected him from the top of his shaggy head to the bottom of his bare feet. Ho-ly hell. Her mouth went dry. She’d seen a photo of him in the spread Wired had done—a candid shot of a nerd, drawn and pale, hunched over a computer, a No. 2 pencil clutched between his teeth and a gaunt cut to his features. But this guy . . . this guy was . . . was, well, Georgia wasn’t quite sure what he was. What she did know was that he didn’t just punch all the right buttons; he lit ’em up like she’d hit the jackpot on the marquee slot machine in Vegas.

No man had any right to be so drop-dead sexy standing practically comatose in a gray, threadbare T-shirt and a pair of navy-blue Jockeys that left little to the imagination. Add in the sexed-up hair and sheet prints on his cheek and there was just something warm and soft and utterly disarming about the guy. He was lazy Sunday mornings after sex-against-the-wall Saturday nights.

Whew. Nerds. Who knew?

Elizabeth Dyer likes her heroines smart and snarky, and her heroes strong and sexy. An attorney and recent coffee devotee, Elizabeth spends the majority of her time tucked into a corner table at Starbucks or pinned beneath her (overly affectionate) bullmastiff. When she isn’t working or wrestling the dog, you can usually find Elizabeth writing the types of sexy, suspenseful books she most loves to read.
